Karen Shaw Hair Extensions - Great Lengths Gold Salon, and a Great Lengths and Remi Cachet certified hair extension specialist
Q - Are 100% human hair extensions suitable for everyone?
A - Hair extensions are a cosmetic procedure and they should be applied to healthy hair. Hair must be at least 5 - 8 cm in length to provide comfortable attachments. There are some medical conditions that may make a minority of clients unsuitable for extensions, which is why certified salons are required to offer a free, no obligation consultation. At this stage the client’s suitability can be ascertained and the salon can be confident that they can produce a high quality result.
Q - Are human hair extensions better, and why?
A - Great Lengths and Remi Cachet only use 100% human hair because it behaves like your own real hair. Human extensions are better because they create a more natural look and effect. This means the extensions can be styled using heated tools and straighteners, as well as being professionally coloured and permed. They are also suitable for most lifestyle activities. So there really are no limits to what you can do when wearing extensions.
Q - Will hair extensions damage the clients own hair?
A - No. If hair extensions are attached by a professionally trained stylist, and they are properly maintained by the clients, extensions should not damage your hair. The hair is 100% natural.
Q - How long will my Great Lengths extensions last?
A - By following the simple maintenance programme, extensions can last up to 5 months using the Classic Fusion system. Using Great Lengths aftercare products will also prolong the life of extensions as they are designed to protect the hair and the bond.
Q - How long will my Remi Cachet Great extensions last?
A - The Luxury Range is high quality Chinese Remi hair which lasts on average up to 6 months plus, with correct care and maintenance.
A - The Elegance Range is a high quality Mongolian / Russian mix that will last on average up to 9 months plus, with correct care and maintenance.
Q - How should I look after my hair extensions when they’re in?
A - Simply follow the guidelines set out on your consultation form and the advice explained to you in detail by Karen. You will also be invited to a free maintenance check within the first 4 weeks where we can cut the extensions again if required.
Q - There have been some stories in the media about the unethical practises of some hair extension manufacturers. Should I be concerned about this?
A - Absolutely not. Great Lengths pride themselves on being 100% ethical and 100% traceable hair. Please take time to read the ethical statement on the ‘About Great Lengths’ page.
Q - There have been similar stories about damage to my hair?
A - Great Lengths and Remi Cachet are passionate about training their certified extensionists in the correct application, so as not to pull on your own hair and cause breakage. Karen is a fully certified Great Lengths and Additional Lengths Remi Cachet extensionist with 20 years experience in extension application.
Q - Are hair extensions expensive?
A - Karen will offer you a full consultation to discuss your hairstyle requirements. Only then will she be able to give you a price for your new look, and this can be tailored to suit your budget.
Q - How long does it take for hair extensions to be applied?
A - This depends upon how many extensions you are having applied and the application system being used. Karen will be able to discuss this with you further at your consultation.
Q - Are hair extensions difficult to style?
A - Because the extensions are 100% human hair they can be treated in just the same way as your own hair - straighten, curl, perm and even colour. However, we do recommend using the appropriate aftercare range of products to help keep the hair in top condition.
Q - Do I have to get a full head of hair extensions?
A - You can have as many extensions as you need to achieve the look you want - even a few simple strands can make a huge difference. Either a splash of colour or add a little more volume. The possibilities are endless.
Q - How do the extensions get removed?
A - You will need to book a removal appointment with Karen who will use the specially formulated removal gel. When applied this gel gently breaks down the bond, and with the removal tool, Karen is then able to slide the bond down your own hair with no damage to your own hair. Removal is free if new extensions are being applied, otherwise Karen charges £25 per hour for hair extension removal. Please note that if extensions are properly cared for and maintained, we estimate 1 hour for removal.
Q - What will my hair be like when I remove the extensions?
A - Once you have had your extensions removed, your hair needs to be washed and conditioned with the aftercare products to clean away any residue from the removal gel. Your hair will be completely undamaged by the extensions and will look a little longer than you remember.
